Frequently asked questions
For specific distances and connectivity, test how to get to your desired destination using an app like Google Maps, Apple Maps or my favorite What3Words.
Due to its development history, Berlin has several centers: It is 15 km by car to the Brandenburg Gate, also 15 km to the main train station, 12 km to the Zoo train station, 15.8 km to Friedrichstraße and 15.6 km to Alexanderplatz. Since the Lichterfelde-Ost S-Bahn station is also a regional train station, you can get from there to Potsdam Platz in twelve minutes after two stops, or to the main train station in 15 minutes after three stops. Lichterfelde-Ost can be reached by bus M11 or X11 in about 5 min. With walking time and changing buses, you should therefore expect 30-40 min from your accommodation to the main station. It is best to use Apple Maps or Google Maps to calculate the time between the accommodation (Hildburghauser Str. 140a, 12209 Berlin) and your desired destination at the estimated time to get a realistic estimate.
Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) is 26.3 km (16.3 miles) away by car, and travel time is about 25 min at most times. A cab or Uber will probably cost you about €43-48, depending on the time of day. By public, it will usually take you a little over an hour (52 min-1:10 hr) and you will pay €3.50 for a BC one-way ticket at the regular price (€2.40 reduced; unless you have a €9 ticket, in which case you pay nothing)). To get to the accommodation, either take bus X71 (direction “U Alt-Mariendorf”) to the stop “Mariendorfer Damm/Buckower Chaussee” and from there take bus M11 or X11 (direction “U Krumme Lanke”) to “Stanzer Zeile”; or take the bus X7 (direction “U Rudow”) to the subway station “Rudow”, change to the U7 (direction “S+U Rathaus Spandau”) to “Johannisthaler Chaussee” and take the bus M11 or X11 (direction “U Krumme Lanke”) to “Stanzer Zeile”. From there it is 300 m to Berlin relaxed enjoy. Alternatives can be displayed via Google Maps or the original app of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).
The pure car distance to the main station is 14.8 km (9.2 miles). For the driving time you should calculate 30-35 min. A cab or Uber will charge about 28-32 € for this. An AB-ticket of the BVG costs 3,- € (1,90 € reduced; unless you have a 9€-ticket, then you don’t pay anything) and the trip is practically the same length: To do this, get on the regional train RE4/RE5 (direction “Ludwigsfelde”) at the main station and after already three stops at the station “Lichterfelde-Ost” opposite change to the bus M11 or X11 (direction “S Schöneweide”) to the stop “Stanzer Zeile”. From there it is 300 m to Berlin relaxed enjoy. Alternatives can be displayed via Google Maps or the original app of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).
The closest bus stop (“Oberhofer Weg”) is practically directly in front of the house, about 20 m (60 ft), and is served by the line 112. More frequent and longer frequented as well as better to get quickly to the center is the bus stop “Stanzer Zeile” in about 300 m (0.2 miles) distance. From there you can take any bus (M11, X11), which will then take you to the S-Bahn station “Lichterfelde-Ost” (1.5 km (0.9 miles), about 15 min walk). Since this is also a regional train station, you can also take regional trains from there to the city center. Thus, Potsdamer Platz is only two stations away, the main station three.
The ticket system of the Berlin public transport system (ÖPNV) is divided into three zones: A, B and C. A is the inner city area, B is the rest of Berlin and C is everything outside of Berlin. The accommodation Berlin entspannt geniessen is located in zone B. Accordingly, you only need a BC or ABC ticket if you are coming from or going to the airport or, for example, a trip to Potsdam or similar undertakings. .
By arrangement you can park directly in front of the right double garage (“140a”). Please never choose the left side, because it belongs to the neighbor. Please keep enough distance to the garage door so that it can still be opened. Furthermore, you can also park directly on Hildburghauser Straße. Basically, Lichterfelde is a safe residential area.
Yes, you are welcome to store bikes and motorcycles in my garage or park them in the garden.
So far, unfortunately, no. I am still working on it.
The accommodation “Enjoy Berlin relaxed” is located outside the Berlin environmental zone. That means you can come here with any car and then use public transport to get to any part of Berlin. In Berlin’s low emission zone (about 88 square meters since 2008), you need a green sticker – even if you’re coming from abroad. Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles with E license plates are exempt. Corresponding foreign vehicles can drive into the environmental zone with a blue E sticker. A violation is an administrative offense that results in a fine of 80 euros.
The nearest bakery (“Mefos”) is about 300 m away. However, the “Lichterfelder Bakery” might be worth the further walk of 800 m because of the larger selection. Right next to it is also the nearest supermarket “Nahkauf”. Other stores are only slightly further. And on Wednesdays and Saturdays (08:00-14 h), the weekly market on Kranoldplatz (1.4 km) offers fresh fruit, vegetables and meat and sausage products, etc. from the region and around the world. Free to use bicycles are in front of the door (or in the garage), so that everything can be reached quickly and comfortably.
In a short walking distance (300-350 m) a Greek (“Taverna Lefkos Pyrgos”) and Italian restaurant (“Il Pomodorino”) are waiting for your visit. Right next to it, the delivery service “Pizzeria Magali” (also with tables for on-site consumption) offers Indian as well as international dishes, and the wine house also offers small dishes along with excellent grape juices. For those who appreciate a digestive walk of 8-10 min – or would like to shorten it to 3-5 min by bike – the oldest Bavarian restaurant in Berlin “Weisses Rössl” (since 1935) offers German food and especially game dishes. Nearby is the Italian restaurant “Made in Sud Berlin” and the Chinese restaurant “Golden Garden”. See also Bars & Restaurants.
Many sights that will surprise even Berlin connoisseurs are located in the immediate vicinity. Did you know that the television was invented here, that the world’s first electric streetcar ran here, or that Otto Lilienthal made his attempts at flight 500 meters from the accommodation? Berlin is rich in museums, memorials and memories – and yet it is not as old as Lichterfelde and Lankwitz (LiLa). You can get an idea of how much there is to discover in the guidebook Nearer Environs, which I researched and wrote especially for you. This is because the standard guides almost all concentrate on the standard program (Brandenburg Tower, Radio Tower, Reichtstag, etc.). If, on the other hand, you go on a tour here, you will learn more about Berlin and German history in very different facets than even die-hard Berliners and Berlin drivers know – and you will do it in a very relaxed way without crowds and queues.
